The Indiana Pacers should be proud of nothing

Indiana-Pacers

I’m sure every Indiana Pacers fan is thrilled that their team made it through to the 2nd round of the NBA playoffs with Saturday’s 92-80 win over the Atlanta Hawks. But neither the team’s players nor their fans should be very excited. [Read more…]

Rebuilding Atlanta Hawks unlikely to make playoffs

The Sports Bank will be counting down to the opening tip of the 2012-13 NBA season with team by team previews starting with the worst and working our way to the title contenders.  There is no lockout this time around so let’s get going.

Having failed to get past the Eastern Conference Semifinals with their previous core, the new Atlanta Hawks front office made the bold decision of entering a rebuilding mode by dealing their star player, Joe Johnson.  As a result, the A-T-L should take a pretty steep drop in the standings as they undergo some transition.

BEST AND MOST DOMINANT BASKETBALL PLAYER(S) IN 1950’S

Bob Pettit

If you ask a lot of people who he or she thinks is the greatest basketball player of all time, I bet most people would say Michael Jordan. Some might say Wilt Chamberlain. Some might say Magic Johnson. Unique skill-sets are what set players apart from one another. LeBron James was supposed to the “next” MJ coming out of high school. But we soon found out that his skill-set resembled Magic Johnson’s more than MJ’s. I would say that Kobe Bryant will be the closest thing to Jordan that we will ever see in the NBA. I am going to break-down some of the greatest basketball players who ever played the game and give meaning to the phrase: “Best player of his era” and “Most dominant player of his era”. [Read more…]

It’s going to be an interesting off-season for the Atlanta Hawks.  They enter the summer with only six players under contract for next season yet they are already above what the projected salary cap will be for the 2012-2013 season.  In other words, filling out their roster and improving from last season will require some creative thinking.

Like we are currently seeing in the NFL, the 2011 NBA off-season is up in the air with a lockout looming.  Free agency could be delayed and completely restructured depending on the new agreement reached by the owners and players.  Still, The Sports Bank continues to break down all thirty NBA teams to see what areas they need to address in the off-season.  The Atlanta Hawks regressed this past season and now find themselves in a tough salary cap situation thanks to the monster contract they gave Joe Johnson last summer.
