Rays Evan Longoria Makes Twitter Pass at Alex Morgan

“Hansel, he’s so hot right now.” You remember that quote from “Zoolander,” it applies to US Soccer and media darling Alex Morgan. And further evidence of that go here.

And star Tampa Bay Rays 3B wants to jump on train too. Look at what he tweeted yesterday:

@alexmorgan13 the TB Rays want to have you USA soccer girls out to throw out first pitches and chill at a game!

We know that ”Chill at the game” is a euphemism for something else. I guess Longoria sees Alex Morgan’s boyfriend, the Seattle Sounders’ Servando Carrasco as anything but a threat.

Morgan tweeted back later saying “let’s do it!” so maybe it’s time Alex’s boyfriend gets his resume ready (from a dating standpoint) because even he’ll likely be dismissed soon. Morgan’s stock is off-the-charts right now and MLS players make about as much money as substitute teachers.

Longoria tweeted again:

Japan Wins World Cup on Penalty Kicks; But USA Women Captured American Hearts This Week

In the summer lull, in the sports media graveyard that is MLB All-Star week, (and with two lockouts in the NBA and NFL in top of it, meaning zero free agency news) THIS is what we needed. As Americans sports fans and sports news consumers, the U.S. Women’s soccer team stepped right in to fill the void.

Led by star player Abby Wambach, and her two extremely photogenic teammates Hope Solo and Alex Morgan, this team captivated a nation looking for sports conversation around the water cooler. The duo was also beloved by red-blooded American men everywhere. See the four links below for more evidence:

U.S. Women World Cup Final vs Japan: what to watch for

alex morgan us soccer

The U.S. Women’s soccer team has a 22-0-3 record versus Japan. So you can see why they’re heavily favored today. Of course, ESPN felt the need to give us YET ANOTHER one of those dumb-you-down “sports success remedies a natural disaster” stories this morning; where they dubbed Japan the “sentimental favorite.”

Sara Walsh, you are a hottie (see more pics here) but how could you deliver such mindless pablum on SportsCenter and keep a straight face?

25,000 people dying from an earthquake-tsunami-nuclear meltdown is an epic historical tragedy. It makes us realize how insignificant sports really are in the larger picture. Yet the media continues to feed us this horsecrap.

The New Orleans Saints were “America’s Team” after Katrina, the Michigan State Spartans were to alleviate poverty and crime in Detroit by reaching the 2009 Final Four in Motown. San Diego Chargers wins were to put out Southern California wildfires, and even the Oklahoma City Thunder’s playoff run in 2010 helped “heal” Oklahoma City from the 1995 Federal building bombing. (yes, believe it or not, I know a writer who actually published this).

Thank God, we had the Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup title last summer, to alleviate our community’s pain and suffering from the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

Let’s move on to the game.

Abby Wambach is the U.S. best player and spiritual leader. Homare Sawa is her counterpart on Japan.

Also Hope Solo is super hot, go here for more on that.
