Josh Hamilton and Matt Kemp Are Threats For The Triple Crown

It’s still “early” in baseball terms, but Josh Hamilton and Matt Kemp have done nothing but put on shows. Their superb play has gotten more attention than Philip Humber’s perfect game. Hamilton and Kemp are going for the Triple Crown in their respective leagues. The Triple Crown is revered, by many, to be the greatest single-season accomplishment in all of baseball.

Blueprint for winning the MLB MVP Award

Let’s look at has been consistent in the MVP winners of the past.  It seems like voters emphasize batting average over defensive position, or OBP.  My preconception is that more MVP winners come from East coast teams and are generally first basemen, or second basemen.  Also, I think voters emphasize a teams’ overall record in their voting.  Am I right in feeling this way?  Well, let’s see….

Paul Konerko Already Getting 2011 AL MVP Consideration

Chicago White Sox first baseman and team captain Paul Konerko is starting the 2011 season where he ended 2010, as a cornerstone of the team and offensive juggernaut.

Last week, Konerko was named co-American League Player of the Week with Cleveland’s Asdrubal Cabrera.

After clubbing two homers in Sunday game against the Tampa Rays, Konerko finished the week hitting .417 with three home runs and eight RBI in six games. At that point, he was tied for the AL lead in home runs and RBI, ranked second in slugging percentage (.833) and ranked third in average.
