The Chicago Wolves had the daunting task of playing three games in three nights this past weekend. Despite the unusual scheduling, the Wolves played like a team looking to make a deep playoff run. The team took five of a possible six points. The opponents? Playoff teams from Rockford and division-leading Grand Rapids.

“I’m tired,” said forward Ty Rattie. “Well deserved day off  for the boys tomorrow.”

Rattie continues to play like anything but a rookie. His 27 goals ties him for fifth in the AHL, and tops among first year players. His productive weekend helped Chicago earn five out of a possible six points. [Read more…]

Chicago Wolves get mixed results versus best teams

The Chicago Wolves are in the middle of the AHL Western Conference playoff race, which explains their play against the teams ahead of them in the standings. Chicago is in fourth place in the west with 76 points, only 7 points out of eighth. Ahead of them in the standings are Grand Rapids, Texas, and Toronto, the division leaders.

It would be tough to imagine Chicago jumping any of those three teams in the standings. Division and Conference-leading Grand Rapids is eight points ahead of the Chicago Wolves, and have been the better team all season. The team has played well against the lower seeded team in the west, but if the Wolves want any chance of making a deep playoff run, they need to beat the best to get out of the west. [Read more…]

Chicago Blackhawks Season Preview: Meet the IceHogs

Lost in the shuffle amid all the roster moves that were made today by the Chicago Blackhawks as they prepare for their regular season opener on Friday was the fact that the roster for the Rockford IceHogs, their AHL affiliate, was solidified as well. Several players who were sent down today, including Brandon Pirri, Dylan Olsen, and Marcus Kruger, undoubtedly will be looked at to make a big impact on the upcoming season for the Hogs, who are coming off a disappointing season in which they finished in last place in the West Division. The injury-depleted Blackhawks didn’t help matters in terms of prying players away from Rockford, but so is the life of an AHL affiliate.
