Welcome to The Sports Bank’s second annual college basketball season preview series.  Last year we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  This year, we are being slightly more aggressive and expanding to 111 teams in 111 days.  We will rank the 74 power conference teams and top 37 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

Entering his third season as head coach, Anthony Grant has really put his stamp on the Alabama Crimson Tide basketball program.  The NIT runner-up a year ago, ‘Bama figures to take another step this year led by their suffocating defense.

The top spot in the Atlantic 10 figures to once again be a battle between Temple and XavierFran Dunphy returns all but one of his key contributors from last year and will feature an experienced backcourt.

JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore played such an enormous role in the Purdue Boilermakers success last season that replacing their production will be a huge challenge for Matt Painter, who nearly bolted for Missouri this off-season.  The return of Robbie Hummel will certainly help, but does Purdue have enough pieces around the returning senior?

Perhaps the only team standing in the way of Kent State winning their third straight MAC Championship is the Western Michigan Broncos.  With all five starters back from a team that won 21 games a year ago, WMU should contend for the conference title.

Colorado is four states away from the coast of the Pacific Ocean.  In the ever changing landscape of college conferences, that does not matter though as the Colorado Buffaloes will play in their inaugural season in the new Pac-12.  Losing four starters including NBA Draft lottery pick Alec Burks will not make it an easy transition for the Buffs though.
