One player can completely transform a franchise.  The Los Angeles Clippers are not yet a NBA playoff team but received an enormous boost this past season as Blake Griffin has superstar written all over him.  Now the Clippers must surround the face of their franchise with improved talent this off-season.

As if their record was not awful enough, the Detroit Pistons 2010-2011 season was filled with more drama than a Real World episode.  Led by Richard Hamilton, several players  staged a walkout on first year head coach John Kuester.  Now, the Joe Dumars and the Pistons enter a critical off-season without a whole lot of cap flexibility.

The 2011 NBA free agency period is very much in limbo with the potential of a lockout looming.  The rules of the game can completely change in terms of how long/how much a player’s contract can be depending on what is agreed upon by the owners and players association.  Regardless of what happens, here are my rankings for the free agent shooting guards this off-season and where they could possibly end up once all the dust is settled.

andre miller blazers

Not many NBA teams will be in search of acquiring a point guard via free agency this summer which is a good thing since the crop of 2011 NBA free agent point guards is weaker than “The Situation’s” game.  That will all change in summer of 2012 when Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, Chauncey Billups, and Raymond Felton are all scheduled to hit the open market.  Until then, here are the top free agent point guards for this off-season.

chauncey billups knicks

The 2010 NBA free agent class was unlike anything we have seen in the history of the league; loaded with superstar talent switching homes and of course, “The Decision.”  The 2011 free agent class is going to be the exact opposite.  It is going to be weaker than a Survivor contestant on the 37th day of eating nothing more than mangoes and rice.

Since I first posted this article at the end of last July, a lot of the possible big names in the 2011 class have signed extensions that will prevent them from hitting the market.  That list includes Carmelo Anthony, Joakim Noah, Al Horford, and Tony Parker.  Here is an updated look at the very underwhelming crop of free agents that will be available this off-season.
