Bracket Breakdown: East Regional

By: David Kay

Synopsis
With mid-majors New Mexico and Temple as two of the top five seeds, this regional looks a little weak.  Kentucky is the most talented team in the country with four future lottery picks on their roster but can they put it all together to make a tournament run?  #2 West Virginia is coming off a Big East Tournament title and is a serious contender to get to Indy while #4 Wisconsin is one of the best coached teams in the nation and if they get hot, can beat anybody.

UPDATED: Field of 65 (TSB’s Bracketology 3-14-10)

UPDATED: 2:45 PM

A crazy Saturday has made a few bubble teams very unhappy.  Houston stole an at-large bid by winning the Conference USA Tournament.  New Mexico State likely did the same by beating Utah State, who should still be in.  Washington went from bubble team to a for sure “in” by claiming the Pac-10 crown.  Minnesota and Mississippi State improved their resumes by advancing to the tournament title games in their respective conferences.  With all that taken into account, here is my latest version of predicting what the NCAA Tournament field will look like.  (Teams with an * have already clinched a spot in the dance.)

Illinois probably saved their NCAA Tournament lives by beating Wisconsin on Saturday.  Same can be said of Washington after advancing to the Pac-10 Championship Game and San Diego State since they knocked off New Mexico; earning a trip to the Mountain West Title tilt.  Still, there are plenty of debates and questions with Selection Sunday now a little more than 24 hours away.  Here is my latest attempt at predicting the 65-team tourney field.  (Teams with an * have already clinched a spot in the dance.)

The jockeying for seeds and at-large bids is crazy right now. Memphis, UAB, and Arizona State likely played themselves out of the tourney talk with early round losses in their respective conference tournaments on Wednesday. To be honest, putting together a bracket gets more and more difficult but here is my latest take. As always, leave a comment or question at the end if you disagree with any of my seeds. (Teams with an * have already clinched a spot in the dance.)

I hope you are enjoying Championship Week as much as I am.  I doubt you are, but still, my intentions are there, right?  If you aren’t, get on it because the major conferences tourneys have tipped-off and we are in for some great games in the next couple days which will have major implications on the NCAA Tournament seeding.  Here is my latest tournament projection.  As always, leave a comment if you have any questions or disagree with any of my seeds. (Teams with an * have already clinched a spot in the dance.)

Five days… Five days away from Selection Sunday.  More automatic bids have been handed out and bubble teams are in desperate need of some wins during their respective conference tournaments.  Luckily I am here to sort it all out with how the brackets will look this Sunday.  As always, leave a comment if you dispute any of my seeds. (Teams with an * have already clinched a spot in the dance.)

Happy March!  We are now just 12 days away from Selection Sunday and conference tournaments are about to begin.  The “Christmas” analogy to describe people’s happiness for up-coming sporting events is more played out than Jack Bauer miraculously escaping capture from the bad guys, so I’ll just say I am anxious.  Very, very anxious.  Here is my latest bracketology.  Feel free to leave a comment at the end if you disagree and I’ll state my case.

We are getting to crunch time and since now is when college basketball teams need to bring their ‘A’ game to stay in the NCAA Tournament picture, so must I.  Expect to see a couple Field’s of 65 per week leading up to Selection Sunday.  I have gone back to school for The Sports Bank’s version of bracketology and here is what I think the NCAA Tournament brackets will look like.
