UPDATED: Field of 65 (TSB’s Bracketology 3-14-10)

A crazy Saturday has made a few bubble teams very unhappy.  Houston stole an at-large bid by winning the Conference USA Tournament.  New Mexico State likely did the same by beating Utah State, who should still be in.  Washington went from bubble team to a for sure “in” by claiming the Pac-10 crown.  Minnesota and Mississippi State improved their resumes by advancing to the tournament title games in their respective conferences.  With all that taken into account, here is my latest version of predicting what the NCAA Tournament field will look like.  (Teams with an * have already clinched a spot in the dance.)

Illinois probably saved their NCAA Tournament lives by beating Wisconsin on Saturday.  Same can be said of Washington after advancing to the Pac-10 Championship Game and San Diego State since they knocked off New Mexico; earning a trip to the Mountain West Title tilt.  Still, there are plenty of debates and questions with Selection Sunday now a little more than 24 hours away.  Here is my latest attempt at predicting the 65-team tourney field.  (Teams with an * have already clinched a spot in the dance.)

The jockeying for seeds and at-large bids is crazy right now. Memphis, UAB, and Arizona State likely played themselves out of the tourney talk with early round losses in their respective conference tournaments on Wednesday. To be honest, putting together a bracket gets more and more difficult but here is my latest take. As always, leave a comment or question at the end if you disagree with any of my seeds. (Teams with an * have already clinched a spot in the dance.)

I hope you are enjoying Championship Week as much as I am.  I doubt you are, but still, my intentions are there, right?  If you aren’t, get on it because the major conferences tourneys have tipped-off and we are in for some great games in the next couple days which will have major implications on the NCAA Tournament seeding.  Here is my latest tournament projection.  As always, leave a comment if you have any questions or disagree with any of my seeds. (Teams with an * have already clinched a spot in the dance.)

Five days… Five days away from Selection Sunday.  More automatic bids have been handed out and bubble teams are in desperate need of some wins during their respective conference tournaments.  Luckily I am here to sort it all out with how the brackets will look this Sunday.  As always, leave a comment if you dispute any of my seeds. (Teams with an * have already clinched a spot in the dance.)

Cornell has clinched a spot in the NCAA Tournament so the field is officially 1/65 set.  With conference play coming to an end and tournaments underway, the brackets will start to set themselves up this weekend.  Here is an updated look at my latest predictions as to what the NCAA Tournament will look like when the field is announced in eight days.

The Field of 65 (TSB’s Bracketology)

Welcome to the Field of 65; The Sports Bank’s version of bracketology.  Every Friday, I mix and match the pieces to try and predict what the NCAA Tournament will look like.  If you are wondering if I accidentally left North Carolina out of my latest brackets, let me tell you I did not.  At 12-7 and on a three-game skid, the Heels are in serious trouble if they do not turn things around quickly.  The defending champs could be NIT bound.

I’m not going to lie, as the college basketball season gets closer and closer to March, trying to predict the 2010 NCAA Tournament field becomes increasingly difficult.  But as I do every Friday, I give it my best shot in The Sports Bank’s Field of 65.

Figuring out the NCAA Tournament field is like putting together a massive jigsaw puzzle.  You have 65 pieces that can mix and match in different spots, but when they all fit together throughout the brackets the final result is a beautiful thing.  Unlike a normal jigsaw puzzle though, there is no perfect way to match all the shapes and corners.  Welcome to the dilemma the Selection Committee faces on a yearly basis.

Every Friday during the college basketball season, I try my best to fit all the edges together to form my very own version of Bracketology called, “The Field of 65.”  Check out the latest version.
