For just the third time in school history, the Virginia Tech Hokies are ranked in the pre-season Top 25.  But in classic coach speak, pre-season rankings do not mean a thing for this group.  Everything will be a disappointment if VA Tech does not reach the NCAA Tournament.

99 in 99: #37 Murray State Racers

Murray State Racers

The 13th seeded Racers made a name for themselves by pulling off the first round upset of Vanderbilt in the first round of the NCAA TournamentMurray State almost advanced past the opening weekend giving eventual national runner-up Butler all they could handle before falling by two points.

The Racers will again be a force from the Ohio Valley Conference which is why they come in at #37 in my “99 in 99” which ranks the 72 power conference college basketball teams and top 27 mid-majors.  Click here if you missed teams #38-#99.

99 in 99: #44 UNLV Rebels

UNLV was supposed to return their top eight scorers from last season and be a Top 25 caliber team this season.  However, off-the-court issues and a season-ending injury have slightly cooled off the hype surrounding the Rebels this season.  Still, they should be bound for the NCAA Tournament for a second straight year.

Our 99 teams in 99 days college basketball preview continues with perhaps the most depressing major conference program of the past couple years.  For nearly all of the past decade, nobody has cared about DePaul basketball, especially in the city of Chicago.  This off-season, the university hoped they took the first step towards restoring some tradition and most importantly, winning back to the program.
