Kansas State guard Cody Whitehair has become a popular name for the upcoming  NFL Draft. He will certainly improve any team’s NFL betting picks as he is a proven star at this position. The guard position has become especially important recently. This is due to the middle area of the offensive line dealing with a great deal of pressure that can be difficult to manage.

The guards can make a big difference when it comes to keeping an NFL QB upright and protected from the blitz up the middle.

Cody Whitehair is expected to be an early round pick because of the strong skill set he possess.

Whitehair shows an awareness of his surroundings and an aggressiveness at the point of attack.

Interestingly enough, Whitehair was an offensive tackle for the Wildcats. He’s now moving to the guard position as a means of augmenting his draft stock and furthering his pro career prospects. The only prospect in this year’s draft who could be classified as a true guard is Stanford’s Joshua Garnett. He is more of a traditional blocking guard on the left side and will certainly be a strong pass protector for any team that uses him.

Other guard prospects in this draft include Sebastian Tretola and Denver Kirkland from Arkansas and Christian Westermann from Arizona State. Westermann is highly regarded due to his strength and agility.

Baylor’s Spencer Drago also converted from the tackle to guard position. He has struggled on the outside so moving him to the guard position will be a sensible tactic to consider.

Texas A&M’s Germain Ifedi is another appealing prospect later in the draft. Baylor tight end LaQuan McGowan may also be an interesting player as he has size enough to be converted to the offensive line if necessary.

Overall, the guard position will certainly be decent in this year’s draft. Cody Whitehair is definitely the top option to look for but the choices that abound include plenty of other talented players.
