Caleb Swanigan would be a big get for John Groce at Illinois. He’d be a #B1G get, a huge get, as the big man from Ft. Wayne, Indiana is drawing interest from numerous Big Ten and Big East programs. The Illini have already offered the 6’9″ 280 Center/Power Forward from the 2016 class. Michigan State and Indiana have already offered as well. As have Tennessee, Pittsburgh and Georgetown.
It’s very early in the process, but the crystal ball thing is showing Tom Izzo in the lead as of now. According to the SB Nation Purdue site, Hammer and Rails:
Caleb Swanigan is a beast of a power forward already as a sophomore. ESPN rates him as 16th in the nation. Rivals has him 32nd nationally. Scout lists him as a5-star recruit and the No. 2 center in the class of 2016 nationally. Purdue has not officially offered yet, but we have the open scholarships, he is in state, and Jack Owens was on hand to watch him this morning. If we don’t offer, and soon, we’re going to be well behind because this kid is a physically dominant player right now.
Here’s a fantastic Caleb Swanigan highlight video that H&R found too.
