According to a claim in The Telegraph, Arsenal are once again keen on Sporting Lisbon and Portugal midfielder William Carvalho. We’ve been down this road before. Carvalho was linked to the Gunners quite a bit this past summer, and also a target of Manchester United in past transfer windows.
The 23-year-old Carvalho was named Player of the Tournament at this summer’s EURO U-21 Championship. Previous valuations, made while have placed Carvalho in the £33-£37 million range.
The Telegraph says the transfer release clause on Carvalho would be £35 million.
That’s a very hefty price tag to be sure, but it might be worth it, given the injury crisis at the position right now for the North London side. Both Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin will be out for an extended period of time.
