As the North Carolina Tar Heels head toward ACC season, they will get to see the hard-liner Roy Williams, the tough love Roy Williams, the no-nonsense Roy Williams.
A reporter asked sophomore guard Nate Britt “Do you think we’re going to see mean Roy after Christmas?”
Britt responded: “most definitely”
Britt was then asked as a follow up if the “Mean Roy” tactics will work? His answer was the quote of the day from the CBS Sports Classic:
“I know it will work, cuz we don’t want to die.”
LOL!
Roy Williams has compiled an 8-3 record in the non-conference thus far. However, their double digit win over #12 Ohio State is the only “signature” or “resume” win thus far. They’re barely holding on in the national rankings (although they’ll obviously ascend on Monday in the new polls) Other than Kentucky or Duke, no one has more McDonald’s All-Americans on their roster than Carolina. Therefore, it’s safe to say that UNC has been under-achieving thus far.
Two more tune-ups (UAB and William & Mary) remain. That’s it. ACC season gets here January 3rd with a visit to Clemson. Roy Williams hopes to bring a 10-3 mark into conference play.
And a hard-line attitude too. Check out his opening statement from the CBS Sports Classic postgame press conference:
“Opening thoughts is thank God it’s Christmas. Let’s get the crap out of town and enjoy Christmas for a while. That’s the opening thought. We were fortunate, I thought we did some really good things.”
Never change Roy Williams, never change!
