Fresh off defeating a very good Penn State Nittany Lions team 23-21 in a game that had more plot twists than a James Bond film this Northwestern football team has a lot to play for even though a trip to Indianapolis for the Big Ten title game is now off the table. Iowa would have to lose two of their last three in order for NU to have a chance at that, so let's just remember … [Read more...] about #21 Northwestern football game preview vs Purdue Boilermakers

Northwestern basketball NIT chances badly damaged by Vic Law injury
As other Big Ten teams will be younger this season, Northwestern basketball will be older and better. How much better? Probably enough to make the NIT, as the Wildcats schedule should easily get them to 18 or maybe 19 wins. Seriously, their non-conference schedule is softer than Kevin James' belly. It's the weakest its been in many years. … [Read more...] about Northwestern basketball NIT chances badly damaged by Vic Law injury
Northwestern football declared “most overrated” by Joey Galloway
While Northwestern football is unranked in both polls, they are actually ranked in the one poll that actually does matter- the college football playoff rankings. The first CFBPlayoff rankings of the season were released last night and Northwestern checks in at #21. Only four Big Ten teams made the cut and NU was one of them. This prompted a malcontent reaction from Joey … [Read more...] about Northwestern football declared “most overrated” by Joey Galloway
Alex Olah on the Olaf from “Frozen” mispronunciation
Opposing players, and yes, sometimes even opposing coaches come into Evanston and often mispronounce the name of Northwestern center Alex Olah as "Alex Olaf." It happens all the time. Olah is an imposing big who seems to play his best college basketball against the top competition. He is not an animated snowman who likes warm hugs. He is also not St. Olaf, a deified 11th … [Read more...] about Alex Olah on the Olaf from “Frozen” mispronunciation
Pat Fitzgerald calls out bloggers…again

Northwestern Football clinches bowl berth; escapes Nebraska
The NU Bowl was a wild one. Lots of lead changes, dropped catches (including a couple likely touchdowns) and otherwise big plays that never came to fruition. Both NUs let a TD grab or two slip through their fingers. In the end, it was the visiting Northwestern football team that made less miscues and executed more big plays to get the job done and win 30-28. … [Read more...] about Northwestern Football clinches bowl berth; escapes Nebraska
Northwestern basketball views Cubs as rebuild role models
As much as you hear "1908" ad nauseam (we're 27 outs away from at least one more year of that, at minimum), college basketball has its own 1908. That would be the "Northwestern basketball has never made the NCAA Tournament" fact/factoid/storyline/reference/allusion/mention/personal gag reflex at this point. The Chicago Cubs and Northwestern basketball athletics are closely … [Read more...] about Northwestern basketball views Cubs as rebuild role models
Northwestern football must prevent a 2013 or 2010 repeat
Northwestern football remembered its history by paying homage to it on Homecoming today. Today was a day that honored the 20th anniversary of the 1995 Rose Bowl team. It's the kind of history that the program would like to repeat. However, this year's team is looking a lot more like the 2010 and 2013 editions. Many power five college football teams start off really fast and … [Read more...] about Northwestern football must prevent a 2013 or 2010 repeat
Pat Fitzgerald tells fantastic story from his playing days
After the Northwestern annual spring scrimmage one season, NU Head Coach Pat Fitzgerald regaled the media with a tale of being in Dallas Cowboys training camp with Troy Aikman. Fitzgerald, like all football loving boys who grew up in Chicagoland in the 1980s dreamed of being Mike Singletary and Walter Payton. Fitzgerald's "glory days" stories are always entertaining. He once … [Read more...] about Pat Fitzgerald tells fantastic story from his playing days
#16 Northwestern football gets Medieval on Minnesota
Don't let the 27-0 score fool you- this game was a much bigger whopping than those numbers would indicate. Similar to Northwestern football's season opening 16-6 win over then #21 Stanford, today's victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers was a lot more decisive than the final margin conveyed. In week one, it was the pace and tempo of the game that made the final point spread … [Read more...] about #16 Northwestern football gets Medieval on Minnesota
