It took Michigan football a long time to fire Al Borges, but it didn’t take very long for them to name his successor. It was talked about that Borges would be canned back in October, but Michigan football didn’t do the deed until last night. Shortly afterward, reports surfaced of who his successor would be. Michigan football Coach Brady Hoke officially named Doug Nussmeier as Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach.

Nussmeier comes to Ann Arbor after spending the past two seasons in the same capacity at the University of Alabama. You already knew that, but now we have the official Michigan football word. See, now that’s rubbing off on me, saying Michigan football all time. Just like all the Michigan football players and coaches do. And soon Nussmeier obviously will as well. “We just gotta play Michigan football.” “For the first three quarters we didn’t play Michigan football.” “Now coach will get us playing Michigan football again.”

“Doug is a highly respected offensive coordinator and has earned a reputation as being a great mentor to quarterbacks, specifically, where he’s coached Pro Bowlers, top NFL draft choices and Heisman trophy finalists,” said Hoke.

“Doug has been successful at every coaching stop with his balanced and explosive offenses, and he brings national championship experience. He is an excellent addition to our coaching staff and football program, and we are excited to have Doug, Christi and their children join the Michigan family.”
