It appears that Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte and star striker Diego Costa are butting heads, and the man higher up in the chain of command here will reportedly not back down.

Costa is the Premier League’s leading scorer, tied with Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez. He’s one of the Blues most valuable players this season, but he was dropped over the weekend in the match against Leicester City due to a row he’s having with coaches and management.

The source of the discord is an out of this world financial offer Costa received from the Chinese Super League.

Diego Costa Reportedly Doesn’t Want to Leave Chelsea FC for Chinese Super League

diego costa chelsea fc news

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has made a lot of headlines this season, but it’s mostly been for all the right reasons. The Spaniard superstar has received a lot of publicity for scoring goals, often of the game winning variety; instead of making headlines for cheating and then being reprimanded, per usual during his career.

The last 24 hours have been tumultuous though as Costa, the Premier League’s leading scorer, who’s having a Player of the Year kind of campaign, was dropped for the weekend trip to Leicester City.

He didn’t even make the trip, but Chelsea didn’t miss a beat, drubbing the defending champions at the King Power Stadium 3-0.

Diego Costa Offered Extremely Lucrative Contract by China

As polarizing a figure he truly is, Diego Costa sure can “ball.” He has 14 goals, to lead the entire premier league this season. In 19 games this season, he’s achieved a 126′ minutes per goal average to go along with 5 assists. He’s the EPL leading scorer, and quite possibly the league player of the year.

Thus he’s attracting the interest of the Chinese Super League, which is offering him Costa an egregiously exorbitant contract, £500,000 per week, $36,000,000 per year. Once Costa became aware of this possibility, he was no longer training in the manner that the team wanted, and then the trouble began.

Chelsea Forward Michy Batshuyai Drawing West Ham, Swansea City Loan Interest

One of Chelsea‘s two main summer signings, Michy Batshuayi, has not been a major part of the plot this season. Batshuayi scored 26 goals in 62 games for Ligue 1 side Marseille last season, but he’s not playing much at all for Stamford Bridge. Stuck beyond a very much in form Diego Costa.

john terry

Former England Captain and Chelsea club icon John Terry hasn’t been match fit too often this season, and hence we haven’t seen him in action very much. However, he did “accomplish” something notable today in the Blues 4-1 win over Peterborough in the FA Cup third round today.

Terry was booked with a red card and sent off; something no Chelsea player, not even Diego Costa has done this season.

Antonio Conte Rules Out Adding a Central Defender

For Chelsea FC Manager Antonio Conte, it’s the epitome of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” About halfway through the season, Conte looks like the Premier League Manager of the Year, with midfielder N’Golo Kante perhaps the acquisition of the year. Chelsea, fresh off seeing their 13 game winning streak snapped, remain on top of the table.

Conte hopes to preserve the status quo, and see out a January transfer window that’s essentially uneventful.
