Opening Day 2009 for the Kane County Cougars will be a historic one as they’ll open the new season in their newly renovated and tremendously upgraded home. “This past winter, the Kane County Forest Preserve Commission formally approved a $10.5 million bid for construction to the home of the Cougars- Elfstrom Stadium…Team and stadium owners will feel a sense of pride as their greatly-invested time, money and resources will be translated into a modernized facility that includes every amenity a stadium could possibly hold,†wrote Cougars Media Relations Coordinator Shawn Touney in his “Grand Slam Gazette†article about the renovation. The Gazette is the official souvenir publication of the Cougars and last April’s edition highlighted all the features of the renovation plan.
According to the Cougars’ official website, “In conjunction with Ream-Hauser Architects and Skender Construction, the renovated facility will add a second-level seating area, covered concourse, and skybox suites, among other amenities, to Elfstrom Stadium in 2009.†Since the last day of the season ended, construction crews have begun working furiously on getting the venue ready for opening day. On the second to last day of September, large steel planks were continuously added on the first base side of the stadium. These are the building blocks for the new outdoor rooftop patio. Next season, both the first and third base side will each feature exclusive outdoor rooftop patios, which will be built to pleasantly accommodate group outings.
The renovation also includes 15 luxury suites and a 300 person super suite behind home plate. The front office staff will also benefit from the stadium expansion as a new 5,500-square foot administration building with a new lobby, conference center and offices is under construction.
The Cougars website features an embedded YouTube video with an artist’s rendering of the new Elfstrom Stadium. The user will experience a three-dimensional view of how one would enter the stadium from the exterior, how the interior of both levels of the stadium will look in 2009 and an aerial overview of the finished project at large.  You can follow updates of the Elfstrom Stadium construction (with photos) by following this link. https://www.kccougars.com/20080916construction.htmlFollow paulmbanks
