Welcome to a weekly article at thesportsbank.net where I will give you the 101 on what has happened in the week of college basketball and what is to come in the days ahead.
Rewind
-A couple weeks ago, people were seriously debating if North Carolina could run the table this season. After being shocked at home by Boston College last weekend, the Heels lose at Wake Forest…and the Demon Deacons remain unbeaten on the season. UNC is now 0-2 in the ACC. Go figure.
-Three days after knocking off top-ranked North Carolina, Boston College loses at home to Harvard and then a few days later falls to Miami (FL). Go figure. By the way, it was the first time the Crimson ever beat a top 25 team prompting a youtube link to one of my all-time favorite scenes from all-time my favorite movie.
-Arkansas pulled a similar BC-type choke job. After beating Texas less than a week after knocking off previously unbeaten Oklahoma, the Razorbacks fall at home to Mississippi State. Go figure.
-Has anyone seen the new Oregon home uniforms? Check out the picture below… Their home uni’s are white with white lettering on the back for the player’s last names. Not white with a green outline or anything, white on white (look closely.) Their road jerseys have green on green texting on the back. In other words; invisible, pointless, and d-u-m-b, DUMB!
My AP Top Ten (if I actually voted in the poll)
1. Pitt (15-0)
2. Wake Forest (14-0)
3. Duke (14-1)
4. UConn (14-1)
5. North Carolina (14-2)
6. Oklahoma (15-1)
7. Syracuse (16-1)
8. Michigan State (13-2)
9. UCLA (14-2)
10. Clemson (16-0)
Nipping on their heels:
Notre Dame (12-3)
Georgetown (11-3)
Texas (12-3)
Marquette (15-2)
Fast Forward
-Big Monday! Louisville at Notre Dame and early control of the Big 12 title race between Texas at Oklahoma. (6:00 and 8:00 ESPN)
-Syracuse at Georgetown- ‘Cuse is 4-0 in the Big East, but all those wins have come against conference bottom feeders. The Hoyas are the first of a gour-game stretch against ranked opponents that should show just how good the Orange is this season. (Wed 7:30 ESPN)
-My DVR is going to get a work-out on Saturday. Check out these big games all featuring top 25 teams going at it:
-Notre Dame at Syracuse- size vs. speed (11:00 ESPN)
-Georgetown at Duke- great non-conference showdown (12:30 CBS)
-Wake Forest at Clemson- a battle of likely unbeatens (2:30 ABC)
-Arizona State at UCLA- winner becomes front-runner in Pac-10 (2:45 CBS)
-Pitt at Louisville- Cards try to hand Panthers first loss (5:00 ESPN)
