#24 Kansas Jayhawks: College Basketball 111 in 111

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s second annual college basketball season preview series.  Last year we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  This year, we are being slightly more aggressive and expanding to 111 teams in 111 days.  We will rank the 74 power conference teams and top 37 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

The Big 12 title has run through Lawrence as the Kansas Jayhawks have cut down the nets in each of the past seven seasons.  However, Bill Self loses several key contributors from last season and only has eight scholarship players on his roster.  In other words, it could be a rare down year for a Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk team that has only lost six games the past two seasons.

Wait, Kansas’ Marcus and Markieff Morris are Twins???

Morriw twins

“Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention. I’ve just been handed an urgent and horrifying news story. I need all of you, to stop what you’re doing and listen.” -Ron Burgundy

What am I about to write is earth-shattering, life-altering, breaking news and the first you have ever heard or read about this… Did you know that Marcus Morris and Markieff Morris are twin brothers?

I will let the shock sink in for a second… Breath… deep inhale… slow exhale… No, seriously they are twin brothers.  Can you believe that?

I hope my sarcasm was thick enough there.  Since the college basketball season ended and the NBA Draft process began, there have been hundreds of stories written about Kansas forwards Marcus and Markieff Morris being twin brothers, sharing all their life experiences together, even having the same 14 tattoos, and how their separation anxiety is kicking in with the realization that they will more than likely begin their NBA careers apart from one another.

This is not another one of those articles.

Kansas Jayhawks Look to Rock-Chalk Their Way to Houston

Choke artists. If there were two words to describe the Kansas Jayhawks under coach Bill Self those two may be it. The Jayhawks have ruined many brackets through the years from their first round losses to Bucknell and Bradley to their did-that-really-just-happen second round exit to Northern Iowa last year.

That’s why, when Kansas only led by four at halftime against 16th-seeded Boston University, people everywhere held their breath. KU, with the exception of the 2008 national title, has been known to choke in tourney time and what’s scary for those Jayhawk fans is that the Regional matchups look like the perfect trap games.

Starting with their Friday night game against Atlantic-10 postseason champion Richmond, Kansas could get to Houston by playing two Regional games against double-digit seeds. No number one seed has anything close to that easy but that’s not to say that Richmond is totally incapable.
