danica-patrick

Danica Patrick announced her divorce from husband Paul Hospenthal on her Facebook page. She said the two have amicably decided to end their marriage. (if there truly is such a thing?)

Hospenthal is a physical therapist who met Patrick while treating her for a non-racing injury. The two were married in 2005, and he is 17 years older than the 30-year-old NASCAR driver.

Danica Patrick prepares for Chicagoland, “hometown” track (interview)

danica

Danica Patrick has 17 starts on the NASCAR season with one top ten finish, an average start of 13.6 and average finish of 19.9. She’s currently ninth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series points standings. Patrick’s position makes her the all-time highest ranked female in NNS competition this late into the season.

This weekend at the STP 300, the Roscoe, Illinois (90 miles northwest of Chicago) native is having her homecoming, at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, IL. At this track, she’s raced twice: finishing 10th once, and 24th on the other occasion. The track was the site of Patrick’s third-career pole in IndyCar competition, where she holds six starts with an average finish of 10.8.

Danica Patrick discusses adjustment from IndyCar to NASCAR

danica-patrick

Danica Patrick appeared with fellow NASCAR Nationwide Series drivers Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Justin Allgaier at Chicago’s Oak Street Beach a couple days ago.

The Roscoe, Illinois native left open wheel racing for stock car racing this year, and talked about some of the differences between the two, and the adjustment in general.

“Leaving IndyCar and the difference between being part time and full time, it just helps every weekend, I’m able to work on things more diligently, and then see improvements instead of having to wait a month to try something new,” Patrick said.

“I’ve always said that the tracks are so much different from IndyCar perspective to a NASCAR perspective. In IndyCar we’re able to run right along the bottom, and in NASCAR you have to more a traditional line, it’s not flat out like it was in those IndyCar days.”

Danica Patrick has another lackluster NASCAR performance at Charlotte

danica-patrick

Danica Patrick‘s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series education continued Sunday night as she finished 30th in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

It was Patrick’s third career Sprint Cup start, and just as she did two weeks ago at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, Patrick ran a clean race and was running at the finish in the No. 10 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet, which is fielded by Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) via a collaborative agreement with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR).

Danica Patrick gets new major sponsor: Coke Zero

danica-patrick

In January, Danica Patrick made big news when she said she would compete in the Coca-Cola 600 on the same weekend as the Indianapolis 500. Yesterday, she made really big Coke related news again. (And on the same day she found out NASCAR wouldn’t punish Patrick or her bump of Sam Hornish Jr. at Talladega as well, good day for Team Danica).

Danica Patrick finishes 31st at Darlington

danica-patrick

While the result shows Danica Patrick finished 31st in the Southern 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race Saturday night at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, the valuable experience she gained can’t be summed up in a box score.

Patrick, driver of the No. 10 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet Impala for Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) via a collaborative agreement with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), had never seen the 1.336-mile oval until last Thursday. But she had heard plenty of stories about the treacherous egg-shaped oval and its knack for being difficult for even the most veteran drivers.

Saturday night, “The Lady in Green,” Danica Patrick, driver of the green No.10 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet, will meet “The Lady in Black” for the very first time when she competes in the Bojangles’ Southern 500 Sprint Cup race at Darlington.

Last week Danica held a late lead at Talladega on Saturday, and remained in the top 10 inside 30 laps to go, but fell off to finish 13th. She also made news for her dust-up with Sam Hornish Jr., bumping him and sending him into the wall.

Patrick, who has never been to Darlington, will also compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race Friday night at the 1.366-mile oval before competing in just her second-ever Sprint Cup race the next night.

Danica Patrick finishes season best 8th

danica-patrick-photo-shoot

Danica Patrick started 17th at Texas Motor Speedway and finished a season-best eighth in the Nationwide Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 Friday night.

She went from 13th to eighth after the final restart with six laps to go. It’s been a very long season for Patrick, who finished 38th at Daytona, despite having the pole. A wreck contributed to that disappointment.

And 35th at Fontana, as she was inhibited by engine failure. Her previous season best was 12th.

Video: Sportscaster suspended for anti-Danica Patrick remarks

danica_patrick

“What she does and what she says, two completely different things,” “always has a chip on her shoulder that one,” those are the words of San Diego sportscaster Ross Shimabuku, who was suspended for a week without pay for remarks made about Danica Patrick before her Sprint Cup Series debut in the Daytona 500.

But that’s not what landed Shimabuku in hot water. After playing a clip in which Patrick talks about the adjectives she’s been described with throughout her racing (and advertising) career, found out after the jump what the sportscaster said…

Photo: Danica Patrick’s High School Yearbook

Danica Patrick finished a disappointing 38th in the Daytona 500. It was a fitting end to a less-than-inspirational week. Patrick qualified 29th but dropped to the rear of the field at the start per NASCAR rules, as a crash in Thursday’s Gatorade Duel Qualifying race forced her to a back-up car. She also crashed in the Nationwide series race (the only one in which she can earn championship points) on Saturday, bringing her total of wrecks for the week to three; not the best way to begin her NASCAR career.

And now…her high school yearbook picture revealed, see it after the jump. Click it for a larger view.
