Brooklyn Decker to be Coca-Cola 600 Grand Marshal (pics)


Actress and former supermodel Brooklyn Decker will be a special guest at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Coca-Cola 600.

Decker, who is a Charlotte, North Carolina native, will also serve as honorary race director. Nascar is huge in Charlotte, it’s where the Hall of Fame is, the headquarters. Auto racing is BIG there, big just like Brooklyn Decker’s….

No Double (Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600) for Tony Stewart this weekend (interview)


For Indiana native Tony Stewart, one event on Memorial Day weekend used to trump all others – the Indianapolis 500. But after more than 30 years of racing competitively – 14 of which have been spent in the elite NASCAR Sprint Cup Series – the Greatest Spectacle in Racing has, believe it or not, taken a backseat to the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

Memorial Day weekend provides a motorsports mosaic, from stock cars in Charlotte to Formula 1 in Monaco to the cornerstone of the weekend – the Indianapolis 500. Stewart pays attention to all of it, and for the better part of his career, Indy reigned supreme. And why not?

Danica Patrick to do Coca-Cola 600 instead of Indy 500


For the first time since 2004, the Indianapolis 500 will not include Danica Patrick. She is skipping it to do the Coca-Cola 600 instead; giving up her self-described favorite race in order to focus on her full-time shift to NASCAR.

Patrick never won the race, but she finished in the top 10 in all but one of her seven starts. She is also the first and only woman to have ever held a lead in that race.
