Chicago Cubs Keys to NLDS Victory via Baseball Tonight’s Adnan Virk

Adnan Virk wears many hats in his role at ESPN, one of which was host of Baseball Tonight. Virk was gracious enough to join us on The TSB Show to Preview the Chicago Cubs vs Washington Nationals National League Division Series.

We also discussed New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge, the Major League Baseball Postseason in general, the L.A. Dodgers, Nats, Clayton Kershaw and so much more. We even briefly touched on some NFL and political topics.

Players to watch:

Chicago Cubs: Wade Davis

“I don’t think he’s getting a lot of attention, but for years he was indispensable for the Royals and I think he’s going to be a huge weapon for Joe Maddon, and we’ve seen with Joe that he’s going to tax those guys, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t start going for some six out saves.”

Washington Nationals: Trae Turner

“I love his speed sometimes it’s not the biggest names., it’s not the Bryce Harper, the Rendon, the Zimmerman, it’s a guy  like Trea Turner who can go from first to third, or make a gutsy play and epitomize what Washington is all about.”

Prediction: Virk is picking the Chicago Cubs, in five games, but admittedly somewhat out of hope, wishful thinking and a tiny bit of bias.

“I’m picking the Cubs, but I do it with hesitancy, I’m probably doing it because I want to see the Cubs first of all, my brother is a Cubs fan,” Virk said.

“Although Nats-Dodgers is compelling, on a personal level I want to see Cubs-Dodgers, because I think that would be sick, but honestly I’m worried if I’m a Cubs fan.”

“Scherzer, Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez, three studs right out of the gate…I like the nationals pitching a lot better…The Nationals are a very balanced team, but if Lester can go back to who he is, if Arrieta bounces back I expect it to go five, I’m hoping for the Cubs, but I fear the Nationals may pull it out.”

Pitching form: the Nats have yet to announce their rotation while the Chicago Cubs will go Kyle Hendricks, Jon Lester, Jose Quintana and Jake Arrieta.
