For those who have been hiding under a rock, or disconnected from the MLB trade pipeline, we’ve got you covered! Sports Betting News and The Sports Bank bring you the 2010 MLB trade summary of the past 48 hours:
By Soxman
The Marlins traded Jorge Cantu to the Texas Rangers for pitchers Evan Reed and Omar Poveda. The Rangers get a .262 hitter with 10 homers and 54 RBI on the season who can play 1B, 3B, and has history at 2B.
The Baltimore Orioles traded 3B\SS Miguel Tejada to the San Diego Padres for pitching prospect Wynn Pelzer. Through 94.1 innings in the minors this season, he has a 4.20 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP. Tejada will likely play shortstop for the Padres. His .670 OPS is the lowest of his career.
The Royals traded leadoff hitting outfielder Scott Podsednik to the Dodgers for catcher Lucas May and right-hander Elisaul Pimentel. Pitching for High-A Great Lakes this season, Pimentel has posted a 3.49 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 97 strikeouts in 90.1 innings pitched. Podsednik is hitting .308 5 HR, 31 RBI, 749 OPS. If you think about it, its almost like Juan Pierre and Podsednik were traded for one another.
The Nationals traded Matt Capps to the Minnesota Twins for catching prospect Wilson Ramos, who is believed to be a defensive wizard and has tremendous upside. Capps will close for the Twins and should help the Minnesota bullpen, but they still have massive questions in their rotation beyond Carl Pavano and Francisco Liriano. In trading Ramos, the Twins parted with their biggest bargaining chip for a strong starter.
The Indians traded third baseman Jhonny Peralta to the Detroit Tigers for minor league pitcher Giovanni Soto (not to be confused with the Cubs catcher). Peralta is hitting .246 with seven home runs and 43 RBI this season.
In the biggest trade thus far, the Astros sent ace Roy Oswalt to the Phillies
For left-handed starter J.A. Happ and minor leaguers Anthony Gose and Jonathan Villar. Oswalt is 6-12 this season with a 3.42 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 120 strikeouts.
The Diamondbacks traded Dan Haren and a minor league pitcher to the Angels in exchange for Joe Saunders, minor league pitchers Rafael Rodriguez and Patrick Corbin and a player to be named later. Haren is another staff ace, who in his first start with the Angels injured his forearm. The injury is not believed to be serious and he’s expected to make his next scheduled start.
The Chicago White Sox have traded pitchers Daniel Hudson and David Holmberg to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Edwin Jackson. More on that here
MLB 2010 Trade Rumors
The Dodgers are exploring acquiring both Cubs starting pitcher Ted Lilly and infielder Ryan Theriot, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. The Dodgers do not have money to spend, so the belief is that the Cubs would demand top tier prospects in return.
The Cardinals are interested in the Rockies Aaron Cook. With a 5.08 ERA and 1.54 WHIP through 20 starts, this might seem like a bad move. However Dave Duncan could help with his mechanics.
