Michigan State corner Trae Waynes is another member of the “no fly zone,” (the original no fly zone, remember that the Arizona Cardinals took the name from the MSU Spartans, who had it first) will join former Jim Thorpe award winner Darquezze Denard by becoming a first round NFL draft pick.
NFL Network Analyst Mike Mayock, on media conference call this week to preview this week’s NFL Scouting Combine.
Here’s where we have Trae Waynes slotted in our latest NFL mock draft.
Mayock was asked what impresses him the most about Waynes and why he’s soared up to the top of the position rankings on his board now.
“Trae Waynes is very comfortable in press coverage. He jumps up there like all the Michigan State corners do. He understands the game. I know when you get a Michigan State kid coming off that defense, he’s got a tough kid that will tackle that’s been well-coached,” said Mayock praising the Mark Dantonio system.
“So that appeals to me first and foremost. His length, his competitiveness, and the fact that he can play press and will tackle. And I think Trae Waynes ‘ make-up and the fact that I trust that he’ll come in and compete day one is kind of a difference maker for me.”
