The now former Paris Saint-Germain superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic said he reached a decision on where he will play next on May 26th. Ibrahimovic previously said that he will disclose what his next team will be whenever he grows tired of the media speculation surrounding his next decision.
Over the weekend, several trusted publications indicated that an Ibrahimovic deal to join Manchester United is in the works, and headed towards the closing stages.
According to The Guardian, Zlatan’s agent, Mino Raiola, has already struck a deal “over the Swede’s salary with a move now hinging on talks between the striker and the club’s new manager, José Mourinho.” Confirmation from the ex-PSG superstar striker should potentially come ahead of the 2016 European Championships, which begin Friday.
Supplementing this narrative is what he said to Swedish television station Fotbollskanalen after Sweden’s 3-0 win over Wales. Zlatan said: “There will be a big announcement on the 7th. It will be this summer’s big bomb. It feels good, feels better than good. A lot will happen with this news, so hopefully you’ll all enjoy.”
What could Tuesday’s announcement be? Revelation that his move to Old Trafford is official? Probably not.
Most likely, it’s going to be hype for his new line of clothing that he’s launching tomorrow, as he’s promoted this “event” on his official Instagram page. Given the level of hyperbole employed by the mercurial Swede in those sentences, it really sounds like he’s selling something.
Of course, trying to guess what Zlatan will do is like going to gamble on the slots, you never what’s going to happen, and that unpredictability is what makes it all so much fun. Knowing what we know about Zlatan Ibrahimovic, you can expect tomorrow’s announcement to be colorful, whatever it is.
Over the final year of his PSG contract, interest has reportedly come in from multiple teams in several countries. Arsenal, Liverpool, West Ham and Manchester City have all been linked to Ibra, but there’s also been strong narratives linking him with a move back to AC Milan, or to L.A. Galaxy of Major League Soccer.
“I enjoy reading what the media write. It’s fun,” Ibrahimovic told the media in late May.
