This article is not a repeat of last season. When you hear Tracy Abrams is out for the year with an injury, you might flashback to last season. That’s understandable how last summer it was a torn ACL that knocked Abrams out for the season. This year, it’s a torn left Achilles tendon.
The school just confirmed as such in a news release.
Tracy Abrams suffered the injury Monday during practice for Illinois’ Aug. 9-19 European trip. His surgery has yet to be scheduled. His presence will be missed. Last year at this time, when we did our “Abrams is out for the year” article, we covered just how much he means to Illini basketball. Abrams has sort of become the Illinois version of Robbie Hummel; when it comes to being snake bit by injuries.
Having to go without the Chicago native and Mt. Carmel grad only darkens the projections for this upcoming season. Illinois looked like a ninth or tenth place team in the Big ten this season with Abrams. Now it seems like 10th or 11th place is more likely. Back to back devastating injuries to Tracy Abrams only further underscores what I said on National Signing Day 2013- failing to land Quentin Snider hurts MUCH more than failing to land Cliff Alexander.
