From Chicago, the heart of Illini country, it’s the IlliNation Show with Paul M. Banks. Welcome to the third ever episode of the IlliNation show, your home for audio of the biggest and best interviews in all of Illini Nation.
This episode features an exclusive with Dave Wannstedt, who is now an analyst for FOX Sports. Next we have some of the best audio with Lovie Smith at B1G Media Day. (We tried to book Marc Trestman and Dick Jauron too just to complete the theme!)
We also have a lot of good Q&A with Athletic Director Josh Whitman, who talks the new $79.2 million facility plan. Facilities are a hot topic, and you can see more artist renderings and read up on that over at this link.
Lovie Smith on the state of the program, and the future direction: “The facility is a big thing. It’s a sign of our commitment to get this going. We know that behind the scenes, we’ve made improvement. We’re in a whole different frame of mind. You have to believe you can win before you hit the field. We’re closer to that right now.”
Smith, as well as the Illini football players in attendance had a lot to say about the Mikey Dudek comeback, and you can read all about it over at this link.
Whitman on the “It’s not going to happen overnight. They say patience is a virtue. When we get there, it will be that much sweeter because of where we’ve come from. That’s the mindset we have. And I hope it continues to be shared by our fans.”
Next, in the basketball portion of the show, we listed out what men’s basketball players we believe should be inaugurated in the Illinois Hall of Fame class. Finally, the timeless men’s basketball debate- ’89 vs. ’05, who wins?
