TSB Bracketology 1-7-11, Forecasting the Field of 68

January 7, 2011 By Bill Burke 4 Comments

2011 final four

I am a huge college basketball nerd.  I know it and if you are a frequent visitor to the Sports Bank, you know it as well.  So much in fact, that I create my own bracketology which is seventy times nerdier than making a NBA mock draft.

In my inaugural year of entering this hallowed ground of geeks, my bracketology more than held its own ESPN’s “expert” bracketologist Joe Lunardi; a feat that I consider to be a huge accomplishment.

This year, there is more to take into account with the NCAA expanding the field to 68 teams.  That means there will now be four play-in games held in Dayton.  Two of those games will feature the final four at-large bids battling to be in the Field of 64.  Same will go for the last four automatic qualifiers.  Be sure to check back every week for updates on my Field of 68.

I doubt the committee would place BYU in a Fri-Sun regional. Especially as a 4 seed, there is a decent chance they could advance and they would refuse to play on Sunday…… I would guess the committee would accommodate them by placing them in the Anaheim or New Orleans regional.

Denver is a Thursday/Saturday host site so BYU would be good to go there… Cleveland, Charlotte, Chicago, and Tulsa are the Friday/Sunday sites

I’m talking about the San Antonio games, those are played on Fri/Sun. You have BYU in the San Antonio regional right now.

Gotcha… yeah, the committee usually places them in a Thursday/Saturday Regional… I’ll have to change that in my next one… I wasn’t looking past the opening weekend… thanks
