After another boring international break, there is nothing like having a blockbuster fixture to headline the return of Premier League football this weekend. Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday was originally slated to open the new stadium at White Hart Lane, but last week saw the announcement of another delay, meaning it won’t be opening until late 2018/early 2019 now.
So this match-up of two top four finishers last season, both of which have league title ambitions this year, will go on at the national stadium instead now. Liverpool head to Wembley Stadium top of the table, having won all four of their games thus far.
Tottenham, having won their first three before losing to Watford, head into this clash fifth place in the table.
The two sides have met 52 times, with Liverpool winning 23, but only seven at Spurs. Tottenham have emerged victorious in the series 14 times, with 12 of those wins coming at home.
The Sports Bank Tottenham Hotspur Starting XI Prediction
Forwards: Harry Kane, Lucas Moura
Attacking midfield: Harry Winks, Christian Eriksen
Centre-midfield: Erik Lamela, Eric Dier
Back line: Ben Davies, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Kieran Trippier
Goalkeeper: Michele Vorm
We went with Vorm in goal given the news surrounding Hugo Lloris today (he was handed a £50,000 fine and a 20 month driving ban after pleading guilty to drunk driving charges), and the fact that he was not involved for France, nor in the loss to Watford.
