Tottenham Hotspur are winding down their preseason, as tomorrow night brings their final International Champions Cup clash, versus AC Milan. This will be the club’s final friendly in the United States of America, and penultimate exhibition match of the 2018-19 season.
There is certainly no shortage of topics to discuss today, so let’s take a spin through the latest news and notes items making the rounds on the internet right now.
Saturday night saw Tottenham lose on penalty kicks to Barcelona in a friendly held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
Moussa Sissoko hobbled off during the first half of that match, having suffered an apparent hamstring injury. According to the Evening Standard, Sissoko will undergo a scan to determine the extent of the damage. Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is expected to provide an update during his news conference today ahead of the friendly vs. Milan.
Pochettino did offer this information after the match at the Rose Bowl: “It’s minor. Maybe he was a bit tired, but it’s not a big issue.”
Spurs certainly hope it’s minor, as they definitely cannot afford any more injuries in the midfield. The position group was thin to begin with, and this preseason has brought nothing short of an injury crisis, before the season even starts. It certainly doesn’t help that Spurs summer transfer window has brought us only tumbleweeds.
Here’s a link to more on Tottenham’s moribund transfer window, which has not seen a single new addition to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, even though there is just 10 days left until the window closes.
Getting back to the midfield injury crisis, Sissoko’s absence now leaves the current team without the services of seven central midfielders, as Victor Wanyama and Tashan Oakley-Boothe have now flown home to London in order to begin treatment for their injury problems.
Harry Winks and Joshua Onomah are both still in London right now recovering from injuries of their own.
Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele, who reached the World Cup semifinals with their respective national team sides, aren’t expected back until just days before the Premier League season opener versus Newcastle United.
