Tottenham Hotspur are in a four way race for the Premier League title and one of the main reasons why is club cornerstone Hugo Lloris.
The goalkeeper and France international was rumored to be a potential replacement for David de Gea at Old Trafford had the Spanish international’s move to his hometown team of Real Madrid gone through. However, it looks like Lloris is going to get a new contract extension, keeping him at White Hart Lane for a long time.
According to NBC Sports Pro Soccer Talk, Lloris will reportedly:
“be offered a new contract in the coming days or weeks that will bump the 29-year-old France and Spurs captain up to $145,000 per week, making him quite easily Tottenham’s highest-paid player…With his current contract set to expire in the summer of 2019, Lloris could potentially be snatched away this summer for a fee befitting a player well below his world-class abilities.”
Spurs Manager Mauricio Pochettino said in early December that he wants to keep Hugo Lloris around for awhile. Following Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with West Brom at The Hawthorns on December 7th, Pochettino said:
“I can say he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. We are lucky he is at Tottenham with us.”
“There are always rumours about the players, but we want to keep him for the future, not only for the present. We want to build the next squad and the future with him. He is very happy with us.”
