Tottenham Hotspur have been middling in Europa League mediocrity for a long while, but that’s all changed this season. Currently residing in second, Tottenham are top four contenders at worst, title challengers at best. They’re just five points behind Leicester City for top of the table.
White Hart Lane has certainly rid themselves of their deadwood, and perhaps the phrase “addition by subtraction” summates their success this year?
Spurs striker and franchise cornerstone Harry Kane thinks Tottenham have improved this year because they don’t have any “bad eggs” having an adverse impact on other members of the team.
“Even the players who don’t play are still working hard in training and doing all the right things to try to get into the team, which is important,” Harry Kane the London Evening Standard.
“If you have one or two bad eggs, it can bring others down others, and we don’t have that. Everyone is fighting for each other and we are in a lot of competitions, so people know they will play games to try to impress the manager. We’ve got to try to keep that belief high.”
“It has been another year with the manager, building his philosophy. We had a good preseason and we have a good bunch of lads.”
“There are some pretty good players in this squad and everyone is together, which is important.”
Harry Kane didn’t name names, but he did say that this group has no slackers.
“There is nobody who doesn’t want to train or who tries to take it easy, because none of the players would let him do that.”
“Everyone speaks up and tells each other what is needed to be done to reach the top, which is why we’ve got a great team. Everyone is chipping in and that is all we can ask for.”
Tottenham have really rid themselves of their expensive benchwarmers and other failed acquisitions during the past couple transfer windows. While Leicester is certainly the biggest surprise of this Premier League season, Spurs aren’t very far behind in that regard.
