Tottenham Hotspur signed Lyon’s speedy star Clinton N’Jie; the kid dubbed the next Samuel Eto’o on Saturday. Today, he revealed that he turned down a move to the Emirates before he committed to White Hart Lane.
He told French paper L’Equipe Monday that he was never tempted to join Arsenal because he believed that he would get more playing time with Spurs.
“I was never scared that my transfer to Tottenham would not be confirmed,” he said. “I never spoke to Arsenal representatives on the phone — they simply contacted my agent.
“My choice was made. I was determined to join Tottenham.
“Here, I will be working under Mauricio Pochettino, a manager who plays youngsters and allows them to progress.
“On Thursday, after I arrived in London and had my medical tests, he welcomed me and told me he hoped I would be available as quickly as possible.”
N’jie was the first attacking signing of the summer for Tottenham Hotspur. There’s a lot of talk today that Saido Berahino coming over from West Brom could be next. So now Spurs would have two new attackers to potentially supplement Harry Kane.
Mauricio Pochettino said last week that Spurs would buy a striker in the next few days; so that was indeed foreshadowing.
