Tottenham Hotspur have opened their new £850 million stadium in style, winning both of the matches that they have played in the new venue thus far. On Saturday they will welcome bottom side Huddersfield Town, and that means there’s a very strong likelihood we’ll see three victories in three tries for Spurs.
Although Tottenham are injury ravaged, they are coming off an emotional high, having just beaten Manchester City at home in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie. As for Huddersfield, they are already regulated, so it will be interesting to see what kind of effort and ambition they bring to this fixture.
Let’s dive right into the injury and fitness situation as there is a lot of ground to cover, starting with Spurs talisman Harry Kane. The face of both the franchise and of English football has re-injured his ankle, and he will miss significant time.
According to Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, he could be gone of the rest of the season. Another Spurs superstar, Dele Alli, got hurt against City, but he might be able to play through the pain. The Daily Mail reported Alli had a scan yesterday due to suspicions that he suffered a broken left hand. TalkSPORT says the English international could play on Saturday with a protective cast or splint.
Meanwhile Eric Dier, Serge Aurier and Erik Lamela remain unavailable for the weekend clash. In shifting over to the Terriers, Adama Diakhaby remains out while Laurent Depoitre and Philip Billing will face late fitness tests.
Additionally, Abdelhamid Sabiri will not be taking part this weekend.
