Tottenham Hotspur will be without several key players and stars when they take on Inter Milan in their UEFA Champions League group stage clash tomorrow night. Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has announced that backs Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld were left behind in London, and won’t be participating in this one.
During his news conference today, he was evasive when it came to giving an explanation. It sounds like the duo are fatigued, and this managerial move is simply a squad rotation, but you never know.
“I never punish players because you win or lose. It is always the plan. The plan is to keep them there and use different players to play tomorrow,” Pochettino said at his press conference, speaking in mostly tautologies.
“We are going to play with different players tomorrow. We believe the best decision is to play with different players.”
Alderweireld is a first team regular for Spurs, likewise for Trippier who was a huge star for England at the World Cup this summer. Both players didn’t look great against Liverpool this past weekend, but then again the defense and midfield overall as a whole had plenty of issues.
Tottenham will also be without attacking midfielder Dele Alli in Milan tomorrow night due to a hamstring injury.
Moussa Sissoko and Juan Foyth are also both sidelined with similar issues, but nearing returns. Team Captain and No. 1 Hugo Lloris is a long term absentee with a thigh injury.
Kick-off: 5.55 pm (BST), Tuesday 18 Sept
Odds via Betway: Tottenham 6/4, Draw 21/10, Inter Milan 2/1
