Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente faced a massive task today- try and fill the shoes of all world striker and talisman Harry Kane. It did not go well, as he opened the scoring in the fixture against Fulham, by scoring FOR the opponent in the 17′.

Dele Alli would equalize for Spurs in the second half, and Harry Winks scored the game winner three minutes into extra time, saving the day for Llorente. A loss to the penultimate side in the table would have been a complete disaster for Spurs, and a draw would have been essentially on par with a loss in this instance.

In the words of Abba, in their hit song “Fernando”

Though I never thought that we could lose
There’s no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando

When Llorente put it in the net for the Craven Cottagers, he soon became a top trending topic on social media, and not for the reasons that anyone would want. It seems a lot of people made some variation of the same kind of joke.

It wasn’t just the own goal that went wrong for Llorente today as he turned in a woeful overall performance. Of the numerous publications that do individual player match ratings, he got often earned a 3/10.

  1. How bad have things got to get before our so called big club starts acting like one, Lewis and Levy need to start giving Pochettino some serious cash. If we blow Thursdays match with Chelsea and again blow a top 4 finish it will be on the head of Levy, get the cheque book out and sign some quality reinforcements, not some two bob 5 minute wonder. Central Midfielder and a striker of quality needed, stop messing around.
