You can’t read too much into Manchester United‘s first two games, but you have to admit that they looked really impressive in both. You can only play the teams in front of you on your schedule, and United have taken care of business against two teams that will be mid table at best, but most likely lower than mid table.
AFC Bournemouth were only promoted to the Premier League a couple years ago, and Southampton are not at the same level that we’re accustomed to seeing with the Saints. United took care of both handily, but you still saw some flaws that need addressing.
United were my preseason league title pick, but we see room for improvement in this side, and we won’t know where they truly are until the better opponents come up on their schedule.
One area where there is no room for improvement is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He’s been transcendent early on! Factor in the Community Shield and he’s got four goals in first three games in a Red Devils shirt. Not only does he add substance, but he also adds style. His big personality and big ego is absolutely perfect for a big club like United. You got to see the video of Paul Pogba doing his Zlatan Ibrahimovic impression; it is priceless.
Although it’s early, and Ibrahimovic admits that, the big Swede is envisioning United winning the league title.
“I believe that we can win the title. I have this vision,” Ibrahimovic told the media. “But we need to work hard for it and we will do everything to bother all the other teams that want to win.
“Who scores is less important as long as we are winning. Yes, I’ve scored three goals so far in the Premier League and I’m happy for that, but it is only the beginning.
“The season is long. I will work hard, the team will work hard and slowly we will get better and better, so let’s see what the outcome will be.”
“I feel I am becoming better with every day that goes by. And, as long as I feel I can develop, I’m happy.”
