The Wayne Rooney era at Manchester United is now over. Old Trafford have sent him back to Everton, ending his 13 year run with the club. Rooney will be given a two year deal from the Toffees as he has reportedly passed his Everton Football Club medical.
The Liverpool Echo reports that:
“Rooney was pictured arriving at the training ground, and later signed autographs for fans gathered outside as he left. He has passed a medical and agreed a contract which will make him the club’s highest earner on around £150,000 a week.”
All that is left now is the formal announcement from the club and the official unveiling. In contrast with multiple prior reports claiming the opposite, Rooney’s return is part of the blockbuster deal that sees Romelu Lukaku going the other way. The Echo understands Roo’s valuation to be £10m by both clubs in part of the £100m Lukaku transaction.
Sky Sports also reports that the Wayne Rooney transfer will be “part of a deal that will see United sign striker Romelu Lukaku for up to £90m.”
