Sir Alex Ferguson stumps for FIFA Presidential candidate

Manchester United legend and Premier League icon Sir Alex Ferguson has given his endorsement in the FIFA Presidency election. He’s going with Gianni Infantino, believing that he’s the man to right the utterly corrupt ship that is FIFA under Sepp Blatter.

Infantino also has the support of an entity more powerful than Fergie. He’s got the nation of Russia.

Via Press Association Sport:

Infantino is one of five candidates standing to succeed Sepp Blatter and the endorsement of Russia, which is hosting the 2018 World Cup and has considerable influence in eastern Europe, is significant.

The Russia football federation announced its backing for Infantino, currently UEFA’s general secretary, saying in a statement: “He will be able to unite the football family.”

The statement made by Sir Alex Ferguson read:

“In my role as ambassador to UEFA over the last few years I’ve got to know Gianni very well. I think he’s got good professionalism, discipline, organizational ability and knowledge of the game and I wish him every success in his quest to be a FIFA president.”

The soiled reputation FIFA now holds is not one that you’d wish on anyone or anything. Infantino has a lot of work to do in order to rehab the association’s image. Getting the endorsement from Sir Alex is a nice start though.
