Manchester United are preparing for eventual life after David de Gea, and Sergio Romero has shown us during the past couple days some evidence that life after De Gea could be a little better than expected. Romero registered a clean sheet and four saves today in United’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
That’s no small feat considering that Spurs have one of the Premier League’s best goal scorers in young striker Harry Kane.
While Romero had some nice saves today, none were as impressive as this one from training yesterday. I was out of this world, and you can see why it’s gone viral.
It was a very ugly win for United today, and the team definitely struggled at times, but Sergio Romero was certainly one of the stars who helped the club achieve three points. Said Manager Louis van Gaal after the game:
“Romero kept a clean sheet, and made some good saves. He has only been with us for one week and did well.”
The 28-year-old Argentina international helped lead AZ Alkmaar to he 2009 Eredivisie title under Van Gaal. Now regarding De Gea, the United boss addressed that situation after the game. Here’s the link to the video and transcript of what he said here.
