Time for your daily David de Geaย and Sergio Ramosย updates.ย The summer’s never ending transfer window soap opera; the 2015 version of the Arturo Vidal saga last summer is now over.ย Will De Gea stay atย Manchester United, or move to Real Madrid? Same question regarding Ramos (just reverse the teams) is what everyone has been talking about since early June. The two players’ potential transfer moves became inter-twined; and the narrative dragged on months.
A week ago, it became very well known that Ramos was going to stay put.
Actually, we knew back on July 23rd when Rafa Benitez said publicly that Sergio Ramos is “100 percent” not going anywhere.ย However, today it is officially official.
Real Madrid announced a five year contract extension for Sergio Ramos.ย The stellar Defender was named the new Los Blancos captain immediately after Iker Casillas left for Porto. That still didn’t end speculation; even though it really should have.

Today Ramos said that he always wanted to stay at Real Madrid, and that he was never looking elsewhere at any time.

“I know this renewal has taken a while but my heart and head have always been with Real Madrid so I couldn’t be happier,” said Ramos.
“I’m thankful I have a new challenge to be the captain of this team. The priority is always Real Madrid, keeping our fans happy and winning titles.”
Ramos added: “There is nothing like this institution. My own happiness is the priority, in the end that was fundamental.”
Of course, that’s exactly what you’re supposed to say and exactly what everyone says in situations like these. Going forward for United, it’s a shame now that they put all their possible defender purchase eggs in the one basket of Ramos. It’s highly unlikely they’ll get another defender now this summer; after they wasted all that time and energy on Ramos.
