Romelu Lukaku is the second most expensive player in Manchester United history, and with that astronomical £75 million price tag came sky high expectations. Big Rom is falling well short of those expectations, as this season has brought a dreadful goal scoring drought for him at Manchester United.
He’s still netting for Belgium, so he must be given credit for that, but at United he’s just not producing and it’s led to criticism about his form. One of the loudest United critics, with the biggest megaphone, is club legend Paul Scholes. The midfielder turned pundit does not hold back when it comes to criticizing his former club, with the results often scathing.
He recently said of Lukaku to ESPN FC: “I’m just not sure you are ever going to win the league with a goalscorer like him.”
The big Belgian has responded to Scholes, during an Instagram interview he gave to B-R Football. He also answered his critics who claim that he has a “poor first touch,” “unsuitable physique” and “not working hard enough.”
“I really don’t respond to him,” he said in reference to Scholes.
“You know, when I see him before the TV, he still shakes my hand. And then do like everything is normal, so.”
On the question of his perceived lack of physicality, Lukaku gave a much more colorful answer.
That’s some BS!,” the striker responded. “Yeah, that’s some BS. I’m one of the strongest players in the league. I never get injured. I’m always there, so what’s the problem?”
Lukaku will get a chance to break out of his slump in a little over an hour, when his side plays their final home group stage match of this season’s UEFA Champions League competition versus Young Boys.
