Radamel Falcao is a trending topic right now in the Manchester United community. News stories about this long-term future are circulating in the Twitterverse, blogosphere, cyberspace and media world. Falcao says he wants to stay, but he doesn’t want to be a sub. He wants playing time.
Injury-plagued since arriving over from Monaco, the 28-year-old Colombian striker has encountered health and fitness issues all season long. Falcao has but one goal for Man United, and it came in the 2-1 win over Everton at the start of October. It wouldn’t be unfair at to label his £6m loan signing as a total bust.
Radamel Falcao spoke today about his future at Old Trafford.
“From my point of view, yes, I want to stay but obviously I have to analyse the situation.
“I’ll see if I play more and see what decision the board takes. But from my point of view, I really want to stay.”
“I feel ready for the moment that the team needs me. Whenever I have the opportunity to come on I try to do my best for the coach and I try to help the team.”
“Every footballer wants to play, no one is happy when they are not playing, when they are on the bench, but whenever I am given the opportunity, whether it be for five, 10, 20 or 90 minutes, I have to give my best.”
Taking a flier on a loan deal at the last minute on transfer deadline day is one thing. Committing another £43.5 million to make his loan move permanent is another story entirely. Especially when that player has such a serious knee injury and subsequent surgery not too far in the rearview mirror. Radamel Falcao has not done anything to prove his long term worth to Louis van Gaal; as of yet anyway.
