Nemanja Matic Says It’s a Six Team Premier League Title Race

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic maintains that it’s a six team Premier League title race, and the current table certainly corroborates his statements. The proverbial big six are the exact same sides that currently reside in the top six slots in the standings, and they are the same exact six teams that Matic listed.

“It’s hard to say after 10 games that someone is going to be champion,” the Serbian said ahead of his side’s UEFA Champions League clash against Benfica on Halloween.

“In two games everything can change. I think there are five or six teams who will challenge for the title, and if I say something now I will be wrong for sure. You have Manchester City, us, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, so with five or six teams it is going to be a big fight until the end and we will see in May.”

Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp conceded the title to Man City, and admitted his side is out of it, just late last week, but Nemanja Matic believes otherwise.

“This is only 10 games but I’m happy that we are now second position, that we are there. We have a chance, but we still have to improve,” he continued before discussing how the last two league results for United have impacted their outlook on the title race.

“We dropped points there and it was important for us to win again to show that we want to fight for the title, that we have quality. I am happy we did it.”

United beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 on Saturday in a match-up of then two second place teams. This came after the shock upset loss to lowly Huddersfield Town the previous week.

This coming weekend will of course be huge, as both Nemanja Matic and his manager Jose Mourinho will be facing their former team, Chelsea, the reigning league champions.
