Manchester United need a striker so badly that even their hated rivals want them to get out and get one. Yes, Steven Gerrard, long time Captain of United’s arch-rivals Liverpool, one of the most acclaimed players in Reds history, advised Louis van Gaal to reinforce the attack.
Stevie G, now with LA Galaxy told BT Sport: “I think they need an extra striker because there’s still too much pressure on Wayne Rooney.”
Gerrard is obviously no longer in direct competition with United, given that he’s now in MLS, so he doesn’t have as much of a dog in the fight. Still the truth is the truth, and Wayne Rooney has been just awful all year long.
Anthony Martial is the only forward who’s been giving them anything at all this season. He’s dynamic, but needs a lot of help. Memphis Depay is a total flop. Van Gaal let Chicharito go without giving him a proper chance. He also found Robin van Persie expendable.
Jesse Lingard has added some life to the final third, but he’s injured. What will United do? Will they follow the advice of Steven Gerrard? Maybe bring Adnan Januzaj back early from his Borussia Dortmund loan?
