Michael Carrick is a cerebral, composed player who does most of his work hovering in the holding-midfield position. The Manchester United midfielder is a gifted passer and reader of the game, and has never received a red card in 432 EPL appearances (premierleague.com).
Update: Carrick scored an “own goal” for United tonight in 3-1 victory over Club Brugge KV in the Champions League Playoff. Hey, it happens, even great players like Carrick make mistakes like these.

It was an accident; these things happen. United got the win though; and find themselves in great position for the next leg in the playoff.
The Red Devils were good enough to get a 1-0 victory over both Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, but both matches were unsightly. You can’t argue with getting six points from the first two games, but most of the football pundits rightfully declared both matches to be snooze fests. United has accrued all six possible points through the first two games, and style points certainly don’t matter towards determining the Premier League table.
Michael Carrick says bigger and better things will soon be here for United fans.
“There’s a lot more to come from us, we expect more and we hope for some better performances,” said Carrick. “Hopefully next time we get the full package.
“What we have to gain [from winning the tie] is very important, but you approach both matches as any other games.”
“We want to win on Tuesday and not concede. Hopefully we can get a good start and take a lead to their place. We’ll be ready.”
