With Radamel Falcao gone to Chelsea, Robin van Persie closing in on a deal to leave for Fenerbahce, and Chicharito also rumored to be on the move, who’s going to be left to play striker for United?
Memphis Depay anyone?
Manchester United Manager Louis van Gaal, along with Depay, held a press conference today. The main point of the presser was to unveil the Dutch Winger, who was signed way back on May 7th, but Van Gaal.
“Before I played on the left wing, and I thought I am a winger, but where he puts me, it’s on the boss,” Depay said.
“I want to play, but it’s on the boss where he puts me and in which system.”
“I believe I can score a lot of goals. I will work on it. I’m excited to do my job for Manchester United. I’m excited about scoring goals and giving assists. I’m a striker.”
The 21-year-old scored 22 goals in 30 Eredivisie appearances for PSV Eindhoven last season, and Depay was their top scorer.
Said Van Gaal: “It’s one of the reasons we bought Memphis. He played striker in the Dutch team and learns very quickly.”
“He can play in different positions. We have to wait and see in which position he can give the most benefit to the team.”
Van Persie is still a part of Manchester United football club. That could very likely not be the case shortly, and he may not still be part of the club come Monday when United flies to the USA to begin their preseason tour.
There was no confirmation nor denial that Van Persie will be joining the team on the USA exhibition tour this summer. Which sort of implies that RVP won’t be coming along.
