Marouane Fellaini Future at Old Trafford still in Doubt Says Jose Mourinho

Marouane Fellaini was a hot topic at Jose Mourinho’s news conference on Friday, as both the fitness and the future of the Belgian midfielder were covered. There has been no progress regarding contract extension talks, and his current deals expires at the end of the season. While Mourinho definitely wants Fellaini to stay, he remains uncertain over whether or not the 30-year-old will.

Fellaini has been out of action since undergoing knee surgery, but Mourinho expects him to return to action later this month. Marouane Fellaini, along with Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind, will not be in the team Monday night when United go to Crystal Palace.

“Is he going to stay or leave? I don’t know,” Mourinho told his news conference.

“I want him to stay, the club want him to stay, the process, negotiations, numbers, distances between the offer and what he wants, I really don’t know.”

Fellaini, who has definitely been a favored choice in selection for Mourinho over the course of the past two seasons, might be back in time to give United a boost in the UEFA Champions League knockout round campaign, provided they can advance past Sevilla.

“He’s still a young player, his injury he had a little surgery but minor surgery and he will be back to play again in a couple of weeks,” Mourinho continued.

“If we proceed in the Champions League after Sevilla I think he will be ready for a hypothetical quarterfinal, a hypothetical FA Cup semifinal, and for the last couple of months of our Premier League fight.”
