Manchester United head to Watford tomorrow, where they will face a Hornets side that is yet to drop points this season. It’s a match that’s looming larger now than anyone expected it would back in the preseason.
Let’s take a spin through the latest Manchester United news and notes items circulating on the internet today. Also, here’s the link to our MUFC starting XI prediction, and to the match preview/injury report.
We begin with the latest on the never ending narrative that claims Paul Pogba is unsettled and looking to leave. Manager Jose Mourinho says that the midfield maestro has never told him that he wants out, but cautions that he’s also outside the loop at the moment.
“The only thing that is clear for me is that the player never – never in all these days we are together – never told me that he wants to leave,” Mourinho said in regards to the Frenchman.
“At this moment, I am in the dark,” Mourinho continued, before explaining why that might be a good thing. “If he doesn’t tell me he wants to leave, it’s because he wants to stay. That’s my conclusion, no?”
“If I watch (Pogba’s agent) Mr. (Mino) Raiola on the (television) screen saying the player wants to leave, and that he is organizing a way for him to try to leave or so on, then I will believe.”
Well stay tuned…and watch this space because Pogba continues to be linked to Barcelona, although at this point that’s nothing beyond just transfer rumors.
On another note, if you didn’t see Mourinho’s statistically driven rant today, in which he went into great detail defending the minutes he’s given Marcus Rashford, then go to this link.
Finally, Marcos Rojo has unfortunately been dealt a severe blow to his comeback hopes tonight. He came on in the 54′ of United’s U23 match against Reading, but left the game limping. ESPN has more on that here.
Rojo has not featured for United’s senior team since, coincidentally, a match against Watford on May 13. The 28-year-old defender has not played a competitive match of any sort since June 30 with Argentina, when they bounced from the World Cup by eventual champion France.
