Man United News: Ander Herrera, David de Gea, Diogo Dalot, Nemanja Matic

Manchester United are currently on the USA portion of their 2018-19 preseason training schedule. Based in southern California, tonight will see United in Arizona to take on Club America in Phoenix, Arizona.

There is certainly no shortage of topics to discuss today, so let’s take a spin through the latest news and notes items making the rounds on the internet this Saturday.

United midfielder Ander Herrera is sticking up for his countryman and club teammate David de Gea. The United and Spain #1 had a brutally awful World Cup, and his lackluster performance drew a lot of criticism. Herrera is defended his mate from the critics.

“I don’t care what the critics say,” Herrera is quoted in The Guardian.

“He is the best goalkeeper in the world, by far, and he will show it again. When you are the best goalkeeper in the world and you don’t make those amazing saves, everyone is going to talk. When I don’t play very well, I don’t get that criticism because I am not one of the best in the world, but he is, so it’s normal and he will cope with it.

“He is so strong. I remember when I was in Spain and he signed for the club [in 2011], the first couple of months were hard for him and he became the best goalkeeper in the world in the next four years, so I am very relaxed about him. We are very lucky to have him.”

De Gea, as well as midfielder Nemanja Matic, will join up with the United squad in the United States next week. Both players are on break following the World Cup.

Herrera is also making news today for dropping a hint about his club future. It appears a new contract extension with United is in the works, as Herrera told a news conference ahead of the match against the quakes: “I’m happy in the club and I love the fans.

“I’m playing for the best team in the UK, so my first intention is to stay because I love what I do and I love where I am.” (Goal has more)

And finally, Diogo Dalot, United’s second signing in what has been a relatively quiet or modest summer transfer window (at least certainly by recent Old Trafford standards) seems to be recovering well from his knee injury.
